Report: Molecular Mycology (MOMY) course at Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole
Esther Weiss, Doctoral researcher in Project A2, was lucky to attend the Molecular Mycology (MOMY) course July 17 – August 2, 2019 at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA. In a group of 18 students, she learned cutting-edge methods, e.g., gene manipulation of Candida, Cryptococcus and Aspergillus, mouse infection models with Aspergillus and Candida, and live fungal imaging in infected zebrafishes. Besides gaining lots of hands-on experiences, Esther was able to network with top leading scientists in the fungal community and daily seminars, nuts and bolts discussions, mentoring sessions, and career advice talks were also part of the course’s schedule.
Esther is very grateful for this experience supported by CRC/Transregio 124 FungiNet and strongly recommends this course to Doctoral students and Postdocs who are interested in learning those techniques.
