Würzburg: ZINF 25th Anniversary Symposium

2018 is the 25th Anniversary of the Research Centre for Infectious Diseases (ZINF) and the Institute of Molecular Infection Biology (IMIB) at the University of Würzburg. To celebrate this special occasion, a scientific symposium was organized by the ZINF/IMIB on November 14th, 2018 and took place at the IMIB in Würzburg. The meeting was financially supported by the CRC/Transregio 124 FungiNet.

The symposium provided an opportunity for personal exchanges between current and former ZINF members, colleagues and friends as well as discussions with academic and political representatives. After a reflection on the activities and accomplishments of the ZINF over the past years, there were several scientific talks discussing the current and future directions in infectious diseases research both in Würzburg and internationally. One of the speakers was Dr. J. Christian Pérez, who is a junior group leader at the ZINF/IZKF (Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical research) in Würzburg and Principal Investigator within the FungiNet consortium (project C1). He talked about “Mechanisms of host colonization by the fungus Candida albicans”.

Among the members of the Research Centre for Infectious Diseases (ZINF) and the Institute of Molecular Infection Biology (IMIB) are additional FungiNet PIs: Prof. Andreas Beilhack (A3), PD Dr. Niklas Beyersdorf (C6), Prof. Thomas Dandekar (B1, B2), Prof. Herrmann Einsele (A2), Prof. Oliver Kurzai (C3), Prof. Jürgen Löffler (A2) and Prof. Joachim Morschhäuser (C2).
